The spoken parts between verses are performed by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.

The song was certified "Platinum" with sells over 4 million copies in the USA. "Rockstar" is also the band's best-selling digital single there.

Despite being at number 100 in Rolling Stone's list of 100 best song of 2007, some consider it the worst song of all time, e.g. BuzzFeed has put it on number two on its list of the 30 worst song ever written.

The music video was made after the re-release of the single. It features lots of famous and random people lip-synching to the lyrics.
